Archive > Material Relations

In these pieces, plants and seeds are layered with textile fragments and pulp painting. The interactions of these elements suggest a complexity and fragility in relationships. Natural elements are paired with textiles and string to explore ideas of containment, dispersal and the nature of surface. These pieces are created using papermaking processes. Flax pulp is poured onto a screen and the elements are composed while floating in slurry (pulp and water). As I lift the screen up out of the water, things shift and spread out, often disrupting the sense of order I am trying to impose. Through the process, these pieces become meditations on the endeavor of finding order amongst prevailing circumstances.
